Dem. People's Rep. of Korea - COI

According to UNHCR statistics for 2011, 1,052 refugees and people in refugee-like situations originated from Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

As UNHCR statistics generally rely on data from host countries, statistics on refugees alone can give an insufficient account of refugee numbers, as some host countries will not grant refugee status to certain groups. Including statistics for individuals in refugee-like situations is an attempt to account for unrecognised refugees and does not include stateless and internally displaced persons.

These statistics, which are for 2010, are the latest available, are provisional, and are subject to change. There are no statistics regarding host countries for refugees originated from Democratic People's Republic of Korea for 2011.

Reporters Without Borders has published a list of 10 "internet enemies", i.e. countries that actively restrict access to the internet, censor content and pursue and imprison those who upload, contribute and view content which criticises the government. There are corresponding articles detailing the legal obstacles for internet users, and the consequences for those who fall foul of the law. Myanmar is on this list.
